5 Powerful Reasons to Pray for Your Future Husband

What is your part to play when it comes to meeting your future husband? There are several action steps to take to give yourself the absolute best “chance” of attracting just the right kind of godly man. Among the most important steps is diligently praying for him.

I don’t subscribe to the view that there is only one soul mate for you. However, I do firmly believe that God is the one who makes the connections in our lives for His purposes. As such, you need to commit your future husband in prayer before you even meet him (or know that he’s going to be your husband).

Here are a five reasons why you need to pray diligently for your future husband:

1) A Christian marriage is powerful.

When two Christians marry, it is not merely for having children, financial prosperity, companionship and the like. When two committed followers of Christ (who are sincerely pursuing Christ; who want to glorify God on the earth; who are committed to fulfilling His Great Commission; and who want to become like Christ) get married, they will be a spiritual force to be reckoned with.

The enemy will try his best to prevent their marriage from happening for the following reasons:-

  • Their prayers together would move mountains and break strongholds.
  • They can positively influence the marriages around them and since the family is the bedrock of society, it will bless the nation. God is interested in all marriages and not only the marriages between believers.
  • They will show young people that marriage is of God and it can be beautiful.
  • They bring God’s peace with them. One of my pastors said that when a Christian married couple has oneness in their marriage, children can sense their peace.
  • They can work in unity to accomplish God’s purposes and not merely their own.
  • They can raise up children who will be arrows to the world for the Lord. (Psalms 127:3-5)

And that’s why you need to marry a man who has made Jesus his Lord! Pray for your future husband because we are in a spiritual battle and a Christian marriage has great influence.

2) Your future husband might be side-tracked by another woman.

The enemy knows our weaknesses and he knows what can lure your future husband away from Christ and away from Christ’s plan for his life. In a period of weakness, he can actually become entangled with an unbelieving woman or a woman who identifies as Christian, but who will derail him. That’s why you need to keep on praying for your future husband before you even meet him.

3) He may be enslaved by sexual sin.

Many Christian men (and Christian women) struggle with pornography and masturbation. Since he feels defeated in this area of his life, he will more than likely feel like a failure and struggle with his sense of worth. When he meets you, an awesome godly woman, he may feel that you’re too good for him even if you did nothing to make him feel inferior. He’s simply battling his own insecurities. You need to pray for his sanctification and that his significance rests in his identity in Christ.

4) He might not notice you.

I was talking with a married Christian lady and she shared with me her love story which I will never forget. Her and her husband were in the same circles. Apparently, she was interested in him, so she prayed that God will turn his heart toward her and it happened! That’s what she told me!

Anyway, for what it’s worth, it cannot hurt to pray, from now, that when God brings your future husband into your life that God will turn his heart to you. You might also want to pray that God turns your heart toward him because sometimes, a good man is right before you and you’re just not interested in him!

5) Both you and him need to be prepared for marriage.

For all you know, your future husband may already be in your life or in your circles. However, either one or both of you may not be ready for marriage. As such, you need to pray that God will mature both of you in the ways that are necessary for a healthy marriage.

For certain, you both will have challenges after marriage, but you can be sufficiently equipped before you say “I do”. Therefore, while you are praying for him, you also need prayer for yourself. You and him may need healing, mindset shifts and possess the right tools before you decide to even enter a relationship.

And, involve others in praying for him (and you) as well.

Here is a list of a few people who prayed for me when I was single:

  • My mother (consistently)
  • My friends (consistently)
  • My director

“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” James 5:16b

Summary

Don’t be ashamed to ask for prayer for your future husband and marriage. You need their prayer support since marriage is perhaps the second most important decision of your life after coming to Christ. You’re in a battle and you need other soldiers to help you.

Also, once you get married, you’ll be a wise wife if you will pray for your husband frequently. Even more-so, you both will do your marriage a whole lot of good if you were to be a part of a couples’ group for praying, sharing and encouragement. Marriage is beautiful, but it is so much better with the support of a community.
